An Easter Poem

Hello friends! I hope you all are having a safe, healthy, and blessed Easter! While the world might be feeling chaotic right now there is always hope. I am comforted that God is still in control and has power over even death itself.

I would like to share with you a poem from my upcoming book “Poems for the Redeemed Heart.” Easter has always been my favorite holiday! I believe that Jesus died on the cross and rose again for all who trust in him. If Jesus didn’t rise again, then the faith I have would mean nothing. But I am certain that he did! Jesus offers you forgiveness and change, no matter what you have said, thought, or done. And, I believe, he is the only hope for eternal life.

PIXAR’S “ONWARD” – A Spoiler Free Movie Review

Pixar’s latest movie “Onward” has found a new home on Disney+ after its short run in theaters. Onward’s exit to the smaller screen is not because it is a lackluster movie, but rather due to the current and unfortunate state of our world. While I would have loved to see this movie in theaters, I am extremely thankful that Disney released it on Disney+ early. For anyone itching to see something new during this time of Social Distancing, I think Onward will satisfy.

What follows is my short, mostly SPOILER FREE review! I will include a section at the end with spoilers, but, don’t worry, I’ll giving you plenty of room to get out of here before hand! Have you seen Pixar’s Onward? If so, what are you thoughts? Feel free to share it in the comments below!

CLONE WARS BREAKDOWN – “THE BAD BATCH ARC”

The Clone Wars returns with a good, clone centered arc, that focuses on Captain Rex and what he has lost! I really enjoyed the first four episodes of season 7, so lets just jump right into it!

What’s it about?

The first four episodes of Season Seven of The Clone Wars features Captain Rex as he works with a unique group of Clones called “The Bad Batch.” The end of the Clone Wars is upon us, Anakin and Obi-Wan are based on Anaxes, a planet created for The Clone Wars but previously seen in Rebels, during the Outer Rim sieges. In these epsiodes, Captain Rex must lead a group of four genetically advanced troopers to find an old friend long gone.

The episodes are titled “The Bad Batch”, “A Distant Echo,” “On the Wings of Keeradaks,” and “Unfinished Buisness.” The four of them were released previously on StarWars.com, but there were some major changes made to the overall story.

Instead of breaking down every episode, I want to give you my general thoughts on them as a whole. THERE WILL BE SOME SPOILERS!

CLONE WARS BREAKDOWN! – A Three Part Series Where I Freak Out Over A Kids’ TV Show.

You might have heard: Star Wars The Clone Wars is back!

Thats right! The greatest animated show ever, has returned to TV (err, Disney+).

Words cannot express how important this series is to me. When I was nearing the end of elementry school, I heard of this new series called “The Clone Wars.” I wasn’t a Star Wars fan at that time but I loved cartoons. Never did I know that this little show would help transform my love for both Star Wars as well as storytelling.

This short blog post is a prelude to a three part series I plan on writing. Part one is already written and should be released later this week. I am very excited that the Clone Wars is back, and have been thoughly enjoying the final season. I hope to share a bit of that enjoyment with you! But perhaps I should explain why I, and so many other Star Wars fans, love The Clone Wars.

How Faith Helps My Fear (4 Lessons from Psalm 23)

Covid19. It has turned our lives upside down. One moment I’m enjoying my senior year at Lancaster Bible College, and the next I’m going home because I am no longer able to work or learn alongside of friends. There were so many people I was hoping to spend the rest of my senior year with. And I treasure the fun that I had. But with the universities closing and classes being moved online, things will have to change.

This isn’t your usual blog post from me. This isn’t about a movie I watched or a book I am writing. It’s about fear. Its about living in world that’s constantly changing, the threat of sickness and death, and how we respond to it. Many of you might not be afraid of this Corona Virus, younger people have only mild symptoms, you may think it isn’t your issue. But it has become all of our issue. The rhythms of life in America have been halted, the new normal reigns supreme, and in this time of uncertainty, we are very prone to fear.

Sonic The Hedgehog Review

I remember the first Sonic The Hedgehog trailer. It was terrifying.

Then the news came out that Sonic was getting a redesign after the internet went into flames over how he looked. Still, most of us thought, “Oh… ok. So the Sonic movie might still stink, but at least he won’t look like some nightmare creature.”

But then the movie came out and people started saying it was a good movie. That’s when I got excited.

You see, as a kid I was always a fan of Sonic. I’d would often play the first few levels of Sonic The Hedgehog 2 on the Sega Genesis over and over again (because, honestly, I could hardly make it past the Chemical Plant Zone)! Also, every Saturday morning I would sit in front of the TV to watch Sonic collect Chaos Emeralds and battle Dr. Eggman in the show Sonic X! So when I heard that the Sonic movie was actually good, I just had to go see it myself! And so, a group of friends and I got together, went to the theater, accidently chose a showing with closed captioning, aaaaannnnnnnnddddd…

WOW! I am going to be completely honest. That was a lot better than I expected!

Overall I think Sonic The Hedgehog was a really good, character focused movie that manages to tap into it’s video game nostalgia while being something completely new. I’m going to try to keep this post spoiler-free incase you haven’t seen it yet.

Mr. Rogers’s Friend: How Creative License Creates an Authentic Message. (Part 2)

Last week we looked at the recent movie ‘A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood’ which featured Tom Hanks as Fred Rodgers and followed the character Lloyd Vogel and his conflict with his father. This week we are going to take a look at the article that inspired the movie as well as what the author has to say about it today.

In actuality, Lloyd Vogel does not exist. He never fought his father in a fight that ended with a black eye. The real man, Tom Junod recognizes this, Lloyd Vogel is a fictional character inspired by a real life person. But, as Tom Junod implies in his recent article from the Atlantic, that despite having a story that was creatively different, ‘A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood’ still contained a story that captured the core of who Mr. Rogers was.

‘A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood,‘ is a beautifully done movie, directed by Marielle Heller, that dives deep into the friendship between Lloyd Vogel (inspired by the real-life journalist Tom Junod) and the children’s TV show host Fred Rogers. The movie is ‘inspired by’ a real life story and features an invaluable lesson that we all need to hear. Minor spoilers ahead!!!
